rhythm of life

groove. dynamics. beat. heart-beat. rhythm. I love the rhythm in music. It's the backbone to all the other instruments, it drives the song..(I love to sit behind a set of drums, whenever i get the chance:)) I've been thinking..what Jeremy said about the voice and singing..wanting more and trying less - this is good advice for drumming too.I like loud, but the drummers who feel the music, don't need to be loud to sound good! For example - the brushes!wow.Brushes sound so soft,calm..and kinda sexy :) i like the messy sound supported by a steady kick!

Had a wonderful, challenging experience today.Definitely challenging for the drummer! We had him record the drums over an acoustic song. Yes,i know.. who does that? Felt sorry for the guy, recording over my unsteady heart-beat. It actually sounded really good and I'm looking forward to the results!! Thank you Boštjan!!

Next on the flex - the bass! goes hand in hand with the drums..oh,mmmm the bass. Will write about it some other time:) We have Jernej coming over to record it!A very talented young man :) love his style.Me and Matej are already excited about the results! So,.. here's a caught moment from the studio. And as always, you are free to share your thoughts below the post.

Trouble over Tokyo

This is a Trouble over Tokyo cover. Toph Taylor is a great artist and I love his music,voice,interpretation,emotions,lyrics... Anyways I've decided to record it with Matej, since haven't done any covers besides Buckley, I wanted to choose another one that's special. And I have to say I do learn a lot through these covers I record...

But there's one person I have to thank in particular, a great musician and a teacher - Jeremy. He makes me listen to myself more, be aware of where my voice leads me... I learn how to trust my voice and how to ....just let go, be distracted :) don't give a f**k and of course work on the scales and warm up :) Anyways, the day I've recorded the TOT song, Jeremy has given me some advice and we went through the song.. recorded single parts with different approach and then listened to it. After the listening I've looked at him with a wtf face, cause I heard the difference and learned once again that: less is more. Every time I sang the song with less power, paying less attention to how I sing it and just dived into the melody of the guitar... it actually sounded so good and much fuller!!"every time you think you have to do more, try less!" a wise man said! And it's so true...

To get back on the recording process. It was interesting and far more demanding than Buckley. But after the vocal lesson I was more confident, I really tried to let go and let the song take me away. I had a great team, the producer/motivator/engineer/technician and probably a lot of other stuff I don't know how to spell - Matej and my tuner/guitarist/water-boy Pero!! Two lovely people, who never lose their sense of humor and what I'm most grateful for - their honesty and belief in me :) So after the dogs quit barking and my heart gives me the rhythm, I start to sing...

my TOP 10!

Hey ppl!

I just arrived to my second home - in the city:) I turned the music up - Tragic Kingdom, while cleaning my room. I can't believe, I've first heard this album when I was in high school,..about 15 years ago!(wtf,I'm getting old!). And I still enjoy listening to it,gives me positive energy! I've started thinking which albums have made it under my top 10! (10 foreign, 10 local/Slovenian). Here we go, no particular order:

No doubt - Tragic kingdom
.
A friend in school had this album and I went to visit her, so I could listen to it:)
Skunk Anansie - Post orgasmic chill
With Charlie Big Potato and friends. I don't skip songs! love them all!
A perfect circle - Mer de noms
Such an inspiring band, love all of their albums, but this one's special! the sea of names and so many feelings!!
Muse - Origin of symmetry
One of the best live bands they say - have to catch them live! Great album, we covered a lot of their songs with my first band Spleen:).

.inspiracija.

DOM

Dom. Vzdihnem ob misli, kako hitro mineva čas. Predvsem družina, prijatelji in smeh otrok. Narava z vso lepoto,ki ji jo pripišem. Otroštvo in odraščanje z vsemi vzponi in padci, ki so izklesali obliko moje duše. Kaj dom pomeni tebi?

Jeff Buckley

This song is one of my favorite Buckley songs...I've met his music last winter and I've been addicted since(thnx Dado!).It was painful recording it. Not because my fingers were aching from not practicing the guitar:)...or because I was trying not to f**k up the take:) but because the lyrics and the song always takes me over, I'm completely lost in it.... I'm suddenly the lyrics, I'm the melody, I'm the song! So... Now you know, how much it means to me, hope you enjoy it, although I know it's not "easy listening"... If you have 5 minutes, close your eyes and let go.

Balinese crimes

I don't like studios. I don't like the fake atmosphere and the fact, that it's supposed to bring out the best in me.(Yeah, thinking about the Foos?) I haven't had many positive experiences, but working with Matej has been magic until now. Not only with the kind of person that he is, but also how he takes care of the design of the room:) Very important!! It's important for me to let go. I've recorded a cover yesterday. Not just any cover and not just somehow. Different approach. Picture it: me, my guitar, 2 mics (well 3 if you count the room/rain mic) and the Balinese doll. Trying to get one good take, by good I mean the one that was the most emotional and had groove in it. Success. Soon on my blog. (The entire time writing this blog I'm listening to one song - MuteMath/obsolete,magic!!). For those who want to know, what the hell am I doing in a studio, if I have at leeeaaast 16 bands! ...try relying on others, when you're doing something that's most important to you. You know, I'm still trying. But I've got to do my own thing, because I feel I have to. There's a forest growing inside my head...with all these trees and flowers, you will soon get to know/hear.

What's really inspiring to me, beside the people around me.. Is the nature. I love nature! You sit on the ground, your back against a tree.. Suddenly everything stops. It's so quiet and you feel like a leaf on the tree. My advice: you should take time for yourself and the nature! Totally :)

Back to the technical stuff :) Until now I've recorded a lot of ideas on my super-great-high resolution web-cam, which just stopped working a few days ago. But I have to prove my geekness and find out if I can solve it somehow.
So we've recorded some of the ideas in the studio already! And soon a few guests are coming over... I had this crazy idea............

"I like the way that songs sort of have light, and sort of travel around despite you. It's good. It helps to have songs that you love, that you can be inside. It's good. It's part of the invention." Jeff Buckley
